The Scilly Lottery has awarded a £500 grant to help one of the finest cathedral choirs in the UK visit the islands.

Truro Cathedral Choir’s eighteen boys, twelve male singers and three organists will visit the islands from April 22nd to 25th next year.

They’ll perform two concerts at St Mary’s Parish church and at St. Agnes church.

Canon Paul Miller is organising the event.

He says that their last visit two years ago proved highly popular, with queues stretching half way down Church Street.

Paul says islanders are providing accommodation for the adults, while the youngsters will be put up at Mundesley House.

But he says the cost of bringing over a party of 44 remains high.  Even with discounts from the Steamship Company, their travel bill will be £1,500.

During the two concerts, islanders will have a chance to take part in the performance, and there will be workshops run for adults and children to learn how to sing in a choir.
