Take Your Partners…As Strictly Come Dancing Comes To Scilly

lifelong learning signDo you spend your Saturday evenings watching Strictly Come Dancing, wondering what it would be like out on the dance floor?

Well now’s your chance to give it a whirl.

Scilly’s Lifelong Learning Team has organised a special ballroom dancing session with a mainland-based trainer to help you sort your spins from you fleckerls.

Tracy Hewett has been dancing since she was five years old and says it’s become very trendy these days, a far cry from when she started as a child.

And she says people are more aware of the benefits of dancing, which is a great way to keep fit.

Tracy says the one-off, three-hour session is designed for everyone, from absolute beginners through to old timers who just want to refresh their skills.

And it could be useful for anyone with an event coming up, like a wedding, who wants to feel more confident dancing in a social environment.

The session will focus on a classic waltz and a more up-tempo cha cha cha.

Tracey says the idea is to help people identify the music, learn some basic steps and a few techniques to feel more confident.

She’s yet to find someone who couldn’t make it round the dancefloor by the end of the session, although she says whether they’re in time is a different matter altogether.

It’s all about having fun rather than actually looking good, says Tracy.

The £12 session is taking place on Thursday 14th November from 6pm to 9pm. Anyone wanting to book should contact the Lifelong Learning Office.

And Tracy has confirmed one important thing – there’ll be nobody giving you scores out of ten.
