Emergency Services Launched To Find Missing Tresco Visitor

coastguard 2Emergency services, including the St Mary’s lifeboat, RNAS Culdrose helicopter and coastguards from Tresco and St Martin’s were called out last night.

They were mobilised to search for an elderly man who failed to return to the New Inn on Tresco where he was staying.

He had been out walking around Cromwell’s Castle with a friend, who returned to the pub after they were separated. The alarm was raised at around 8pm.

The man was found around 30 minutes later by coastguards near Braiden Rock.

Falmouth Coastguard say the man appears to have slipped while walking and was in some discomfort.

The St Mary’s lifeboat crew, who had been undertaking a shoreline search from Gimble Porth to New Grimsby, transferred the man to their inflatable and then onto the lifeboat to bring him back to St Mary’s.

He was transferred by ambulance to the island’s hospital.
