Islanders and visitors will be able to honour those who fought for freedom at home and abroad.

A Garden of Remembrance was opened in The Park yesterday at 11am. It will remain there until November 11th when the crosses and wreaths will be moved to Old Town.

A small group of Royal British Legion supporters attended a short service yesterday, led by Council Chairman Amanda Martin.

Amanda said: “It’s an honour to commemorate the memory of the fallen from Scilly who perished in conflict.”

There wasn’t a minister present for the service because Reverend Charlie Gibbs is on the mainland and Canon Paul Miller was unable to get back in time because of the weather disruption to flights.
