Candidates Interviewed For Council Chief Executive Position

town hall 4Councillors could decide who will fill what is arguably the most influential job on the islands today.

It’s the second of a two-day selection process for the role of Council Chief Executive.

Yesterday the applicants met some of the elected members.

A handful of candidates have been shortlisted from around twenty initial applicants, by a professional recruitment firm. Their staff are expected to join the Interim Chief Executive Barry Keel and offer input into the process today.

There had that had been plans to take the candidates to St Agnes.

In August, Cllr Christine Savill requested that they should experience life on an off-island, but sea conditions ruled that out yesterday.

Chairman Amanda Martin said they would aim to appoint the best candidate to take the islands forward and if it none of the finalists meet the assessors’ criteria, they’ll begin the recruitment process again.

The salary package is worth up to £100,000 a year.

The Council has been without a full-time Chief Executive since January this year, when Philip Hygate took early retirement.

Barry Keel was recruited for 3-days a week, on a temporary basis, with a view to restructuring the Authority and filling the top job.
