boats in harbour 2Work to improve facilities for visiting sailors and boating locals begins today.

The yacht grid in St Mary’s Harbour is being re-laid. The existing one, which is over 15 years old, has started to get worn out and will be replaced.

Harbourmaster Dale Clark says the Duchy of Cornwall is investing around £100,000 in upgrading its harbour facilities on St Mary’s. And he says that this will be, “quite an involved operation”.

The Padstow-based vessel Manin, which was last used in Scilly around 2 years ago for dredging, will bring over new chains this evening.

All buoys and moorings have been removed to enable the four visiting workers to complete the upgrades and its expected to take 10 to 14 days.
