Scilly’s Police Urging Residents To Secure Bikes

bikes in rackScilly’s Police Sergeant is concerned that stealing of bikes is spoiling visitors’ experience of St Mary’s.

Colin Taylor says some tourists have been victims of bike thefts and in the most recent incident, a cycle was stolen from a closed garage in the Sandybanks area.

That bike has seen been recovered but they are dealing with this as a case of burglary.

Colin says some locals refer to the crime as ‘borrowing’ rather than theft, and he’s urging islanders not to accept it as a fact of life.

Most bikes seem to be stolen at night along the main routes out of town and he says residents in these areas may want to consider their cycle security.

Some visitors have also had bikes taken, says Colin, and this has spoiled their stay in Scilly.
