The Council is setting up a new group to manage the clearance of the Moorwell Alp.

It follows advice received by Interim Chief Executive Barry Keel from Defra, who asked the Authority to create a small body that has sufficient powers to make decisions quickly.

Defra is providing up to £5m to tackle our waste issues.

At Tuesday’s Full Council meeting, Chief Technical Officer, Neville Gardner suggested using the current Waste and Water Charges Working Party, a subgroup of the General Purposes Committee.

But this proved difficult as no one was clear who exactly sat on that group.

Barry felt that even this might be too big to act quickly and having just four members could be better.

Chair of General Purposes, Cllr Steve Sims, said they would appoint the new team at their next meeting.
