Steamship Company Holds Land’s End Public Meeting

lands end airport signSteamship Company bosses received a round of applause when they announced plans to make their Scilly air link more resilient in winter.

Around thirty people attended a presentation at Land’s End Airport on Thursday evening.

Most of the audience were Penwith locals, who were concerned about noise and disruption during the works to hard surface the grass runway.

Commercial Manager Nick Sanders says worries over traffic movements, noise and flood lighting will be mitigated by the short duration of the contract works and noise monitoring will be carried out.

Around five people were unconvinced and remain opposed to the plans. Some of them are unhappy about the hard surfacing taking place in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

The airport will be closed to all air traffic for 22 days from the afternoon of 9th November, reopening on 2nd December. The Scillonian III will continue to operate during this period.
