Co-op Could Create User Forum For Scilly

coop signA St Mary’s man is claiming that progress has been made after the Co-op has agreed to look into setting up a local users’ forum.

Alan Davis has been campaigning for the Hugh Town shop to take the preferences and needs of Scilly’s shoppers into account rather than following national stock policy.

He has also complained about the store’s cleanliness.

Mr Davis has challenged the Co-op over how it can represent locals’ views. He claims that islanders can’t be elected to the regional membership committee, especially when they end up vying for votes against Cornish candidates.

Alan wrote to the Co-Op Regional Secretary to say that locals didn’t want another “wine and crisp” session with national staff, as these past meetings have not changed anything.

Deborah Clarke from the Co-op headquarters confirmed that their Operations Manager is looking at setting up such a forum, but says it is “early days” and no details are confirmed.
