Organisers Say Gig Invitation Weekend Was ‘One Of The Best’

Tregarthens Gig Ready For ShippingOrganisers of this weekend’s Newquay Invitation Weekend rowing event say it was one of the best events in a long time.

Seven women crew took to the water over the weekend with rowers from Newquay and Padstow joining islanders.

The Tregarthen’s crew won the Saturday night Nut Rock row and it was a close second between Brabyn from Padstow who clinched it and local gig the Emperor, from Tresco.

Next to cross the line were the Emma Louise, Islander, Spy from Newquay and the Golden Eagle.

In yesterday’s race from St Marys to St Agnes the Islander came first followed by the Spy and Bonnet.

The journey back to St Mary’s was a mix-up race, where crew names were pulled out of a hat and the first three boats to finish were Brabyn, Islander and Bonnet.

The men will come over to compete in two weeks time.
