St Agnes Beach Clean Clears Way For Rat Eradication

Over thirty volunteers, including a team from RNAS Culdrose, cleared 100 bags of plastic bottles, foam, rope and general waste from St Agnes’ beaches yesterday and on Wednesday.

The clean up was arranged by the Seabird Recovery Project.

The waste is a problem for the project team, who will start eradicating rats to protect the breeding grounds of rare Manx shearwater and storm petrel, because the rubbish provides food and nesting material for the rodents.

Rick Legg collected the spoils and organiser Bob Dawson says they’re grateful to the Council for covering the costs of transportation and disposal.
