PC Faye Webb and PCSO Shirley Graham get into their kit for the training

The St Mary’s police team spent much of yesterday afternoon in the cold waters of St Mary’s harbour.

Sgt Colin Taylor, PCSO Shirley Graham and PCs Faye Webb and Mat Crowe were given two hours of training in sea survival and safety skills by specialist police divers.

The team from the Tactical Aid Group also trained Coastguard Martin Songhurst and Jim and Ben Johnson.

Colin says they wanted as many people to benefit from the exercise as possible so they were happy to open it wider than the police service.

He found guidance on how to enter the water properly the most useful advice. The water-borne session followed two hours of training in the sports hall yesterday.
