round the island 2013Local sailors have been flying the flag for Scilly at the National Redwing Championships in Tenby.

The annual fixture, which ran from Monday to Friday last week, featured two of the islands’ growing fleet of distinctive wooden-hulled boats

Keith Buchanan and son Ned, in Ballerina, finished the week in 7th place out of 15 with Carol shave and son Jake, in Venus, coming in at 12th position.

Carol said they had an excellent week in the West Wales town and were made very welcome by the local sailing club, who “couldn’t do enough for them,” she said.

They were also lucky with the weather and managed to complete all six races of the championships.

The event, which was held in Scilly last year, is due to move to the French town of St Brieuc in Brittany in 2014.
