The Isles of Scilly Health Centre is celebrating a year of changes at the surgery with an Open Day next Saturday.

It’ll be a chance to meet the new full-time GP, Dr Mike Carter, who is moving over from Helston, and see the improvements made to the pharmacy and the optometry room.

Claire Harvey says there’ll be cakes, teas and coffees available, as well as a bouncy castle and a car boot sale.

There’ll also be raffle with prizes donated by local businesses.

All money raised will help the funds of the Hospital League of Friends, who have bought a number of new pieces of equipment for the surgery this year.

These include a new ECG machine, a skin cancer detector and a system to measure cholesterol levels.

Claire says they’ve been so generous this year that the staff at the Health Centre felt they wanted to try to replenish their coffers with a fundraising event.

Anyone who would like to book a space at the car boot, or provide their own tabletop, should call the Health Centre on 422628. The fee is £5.
