Theatre Crash Course Ends In A Show Tonight

youth hub fame showA group of islands’ youngsters will be putting on a musical show at the newly refurbished Town Hall this evening.

But what many in the audience won’t realise is that it’s taken them just four days to pull the whole thing together.

It’s the culmination of a theatre, music and dance course organised by the Council’s Youth Office at Carn Thomas and led by Cornish drama coach Stephanie Johnson.

It’s the third time Stephanie has run the course in Scilly and she says she’s always blown away by the enthusiasm of the youngsters who take part here.

She says they even rehearse through their lunch break and after they go home in the evening.

Putting on a show in such short time is fairly tough, but Stephanie says they have a very good formula now that works well and it’s amazing how quickly it comes together.

This evening’s musical is called ‘A Night At The Movies’ and is about a star with a bad voice struggling to make the transition from silent movies to ‘talkies.’

Phoebe Kirkby plays the janitor who steps into the star’s shoes. She likes the “mad panic” of getting everything together within a week and says she’s now surprised at how long the school productions can take.

She’s previously taken part in Bugsy Malone and Hairspray.

The youngsters will include numbers from Matilda, My Fair Lady and 42nd Street in their show.

Doors open at 7pm for a 7.30pm start. Tickets are free but there will be a collection in aid of the Cornwall Air Ambulance.

You can get tickets from Carn Thomas with some tickets available on the door.
