Our region’s new Police and Crime Commissioner is offering grants to help community groups to reduce crime in their area.

Tony Hogg launched the £200,000 fund at the weekend, saying it will put charitable and community organisations at the heart of policing in the south west.

Groups will be able to get up to £5,000 to fund their project.

Mr Hogg said knows there are many people out there with great ideas but who don’t have the funds to make it happen. And he says a relatively small amount of money can have a large impact on people’s lives.

While Scilly has one of the lowest crime rates in the country, there have been recurring problems with petty theft, including taking bikes without consent.

Details of the scheme are available on the PCC website and the deadline for applications is October 31st 2013.
