The St Mary’s lifeboat was called this morning to help two divers who got into trouble near Bishop Rock lighthouse.

RNLB The Whiteheads, under the command of Stuart Hitchens, received a request at 9.52am to go to the help of a male diver who was found unconscious 32m under the water by two other divers from the Tiberon, a local diving charter vessel.

The lifeboat was launched at 10am and reached the casualty in 12 minutes.

Another local diving vessel, Moonshadow, stood by and helped to get other divers out of the water.

The RNAS Culdrose helicopter arrived on the scene at 10.15am and airlifted the man to Treliske Hospital in Truro.

Meanwhile one of the other divers who helped with the rapid ascent was showed signs of distress. Following communication with a doctor, the lifeboat then made her way towards Wolf Rock where they met a second helicopter to take the casualty to Plymouth.
