No Demand For Bank Holiday Sports Facilities, Says Council

sports hall 2The Council’s sports facilities, including the gym, sports hall and Normandy pool, are closed today. And they’re saying it’s because there’s been no demand on previous Bank Holiday.

Press Officer George Pearson says the extra staffing costs of opening on a Bank Holiday means that it would not be financially viable to offer the service, but he says that if there is enough call from the community that decision could be reviewed.

On the last May Bank Holiday, after bad weather, the pool facilities did open but George said they did so as staff worked voluntarily.

The gym closed early for two hours twice this month. George says that was due to staffing shortages and illnesses, which were unavoidable.

He says gym numbers have been especially high recently with over 400 visitors in July, double that of June. August also looks busy.
