Police Appeal For Safe Driving After Near Misses

police landroverSt Mary’s Police are appealing to drivers to slow down and respect cyclists.

It’s after a woman came off her bike on Monday lunchtime on Telegraph Road, by the Longstone turn.

Eyewitnesses went to police claiming a vehicle took the bend too fast and crossed into the path of the oncoming bicycle, which then swerved into the side of the road.

PCSO Shirley Graham says there have been some “close shaves” recently and she wants drivers to slow down and give more vulnerable road users, like cyclists, pedestrians and mobility scooter users, some space.

The Police have received a number of complaints about drivers overtaking on blind bends and on the brow of hills.

Shirley says this weekend is likely to be one of the busiest of the summer on the road of St Mary’s and she wants drivers to slow down and think about what might be ahead.
