Old Bill Powerless Over Duck Death

Police light 2St Mary’s Police say there’s little they can do after a driver killed a duck at Porthloo.

Onlookers allege that the man in a silver coloured van ran over the bird in front of children on Saturday afternoon.

PC Faye Webb says she understands that the ducks can get in the way and sometimes drivers need to get out and shoo them away.

But she says there’s no need for a motorist on St Mary’s to be in such a hurry. Faye says it’s particularly upsetting that a young child witnessed the incident but the Police are powerless to act.

It’s not the only bird-related incident this weekend. Yesterday police were called after a gull on Porthcressa dropped a watch.

It seems the seagull snatched one that the owner had taken off her wrist and left at her side on the sandy beach.

Visitors saw the bird spit out the watch it was carrying in its beak. They took it into the TIC before police were called and added it to their found property list.

It’s a ladies Accurist make with a brown, leather strap.
