‘Ministry Of Scilly Walks’ Set For Biggest Challenge Yet

SONY DSCA Tresco landlord will be hoping to beat the blisters and raise cash for Macmillan Cancer Support this September.

Robin Lawson from the New Inn will be joining six other walkers on the annual ‘Ministry of Scilly Walks’ sponsored hike.

On the 7th and 8th September, they’ll be walking 68km along the northern Cornish coast path, from Land’s End to Portreath.

The group has been organising the walks for several years and has raised £16,000 so far for various charities.

Last year they attempted 66km along the southern coastal path to the Lizard, although Robin says it’ll be harder this time round because they haven’t got George Kershaw helping out in a support car.

They’ll have to carry all their own spare clothes, food and water this year.

The walk was originally planned for May, but Robin said it had to be postponed due to illness. That’s made it harder to get into training, he says, because of the busy summer season.

But he’s still managed to get out around Tresco to loosen up his walking boots, he says.

Robin says they’ve had great support from both locals and visitors and have already taken in £700.

The breweries that supply the New Inn have also donated a barrel of beer each, which Robin will sell at the Tresco Beer Festival.

That money will hopefully go towards reaching a target of over £2,000 he says.

You can find details of the walk and how to support the group at their JustGiving page here. Sponsorship forms are also available at the New Inn.
