The Council is holding an auction to sell off items left over from the old Carn Gwaval primary and Carn Thomas secondary schools.

Last July councillors backed the sale of any fittings valued at over £700.

Earlier this year, clubs and non-profit groups were given first refusal on the fixtures, fittings and furnishings.

But they didn’t take everything and tables, chairs, shelving, light fittings and a number of kitchen or catering appliances remain.

These will be sold off to raise cash for the Council.

Cllr Richard McCarthy, the Chairman of the Community Services committee, says that the new school has no need for what remains so it seems right that people on Scilly have a chance to make the best possible use of the equipment.

There’ll be a viewing on 28th August and the auction will take place the next day, the 29th, in the former secondary school.

The sale will be split into a morning and an afternoon session. Would-be buyers can then decide whether they attend both events or just one.

Anything left unsold will be dispatched via the Rotary Club to underprivileged schools in Romania. A delegation from Romania, including some visiting teachers, toured the new school facility as part of a Rotary Club exchange visit in April.

Auction listings can be obtained from the Town Hall reception.
