The Turk’s Head was awash with champagne last night as the St Agnes cricket team celebrated victory in Scilly’s annual off-island tournament.

The bubbly was being supped from the Danny Hick Trophy, which St Agnes had won for the first time since 2003.

Each year on an August Sunday the Triangular Tournament features three 20-over clashes in which St Agnes, Tresco and St Martin’s cricket teams play each other in turn.

This season the matches were hosted on Tresco.

St Martin’s were heavily beaten in both their games.

The crucial contest turned out to be the opener in which Tresco amassed a huge total of 180 for the loss of just one wicket in their allotted span.

But Agnes proved equal to the challenge. Although they lost four wickets in the process, they passed the Tresco total with six wickets and just a handful of balls to spare.

Tresco had the Man of the Triangle though. Gardener David Hamilton successfully carried his bat, making big scores in both his innings.
