Scilly’s Food Producers Feature On Radio 4

grazing cattle peninnisScilly’s local food production has been featured on BBC Radio 4’s Farming Today programme.

The short feature, yesterday at 5.45am, revealed how local farmers and producers have struggled to get their goods into islands’ restaurants and hotels.

It centred on the new Farming Initiative’s plans to bring producers and users together with a website, which will list what goods local farmers have on offer during the season.

The broadcast included interviews with Food Champion Issy Tibbs about her work and the website, as well as Drew O’Connor, the Chef at Juliet’s Garden, who spoke about how local produce tastes better.

Dan May also spoke about his pig rearing at Peninnis Farm and how the animals need to go to the mainland for slaughter.

You can hear the programme here on the BBC iPlayer for seven days days.
