Tourism Businesses Should Celebrate Individuality Says Outgoing Hotel Manager

Tourism businesses in Scilly should highlight their individuality and unique differences.

That’s the message from Joan Shiles, who left St Mary’s Hall hotel after four years of managing the business yesterday.

Joan says moves to present a united tourism approach through the Islands’ Partnership are fine but that shouldn’t mean quirkiness or uniqueness within businesses is played down.

And she hopes that work to improve quality and fine-tune the promotional message doesn’t discourage the elements that she feels make Scilly a special destination.

Joan feels we shouldn’t get too hung up on making money, as profits will come from a business that “gets it right” by offering a good all round experience and doesn’t forget that people come here for pleasure.
