‘Biggest Game’ In Islands’ Cricket Calendar Taking Place Today

cricket bowlerIsland cricket fans could be in for a good game on Tresco today, on the second day of the MCC cricket tour.

The visiting players, who come here every summer, used to play in just one match but now it’s been extended to two games to make better use of their time on the islands.

Last night there was a 20-overs evening game against St Mary’s, which saw father and son Joe and Ethan Badcock turn out for the local side.

This afternoon a combined Scilly side will take on the visitors in a 35-over fixture starting at 1pm.

Organiser James Francis says it’s the biggest game in the islands’ cricketing calendar and a chance to play against top-class opposition.

He says a number of the visitors have played county cricket and some have represented England in the national squad, although James thinks the islands’ cricketers can hold their own against the visiting professionals and semi pros.

There’ll be a cricketers’ boat from St Mary’s at 11.45am.
