Open Day Being Held At Carn Gwaval To Celebrate Opening

sports hall 2The Council is giving people a chance to look around the new Carn Gwaval Health and Wellbeing Centre next week.

A special Open Day is being organised for Monday July 29th with opportunities to see what the site has to offer and take part in a range of activities.

Local and visiting health organisations will be holding a mini-fair in the foyer, offering help and advice, while Lifelong Learning will be putting on several short courses, ranging from digital photography and poetry to graphic design, massage and therapy sessions.

The Memory Cafe will be running its own sessions in the morning and afternoon at its new permanent base on the site and there’s a wildlife walk organised from the sensory garden, which has been designed with help from Tresco Estate.

The £600,000 Carn Gwaval re-development was paid for with money from the Big Lottery Fund and Local Action Group.

Community Services chairman Richard McCarthy says the project was an opportunity to transform the empty, former primary school building into something that will have a vitally important role to play on Scilly.

There’s a formal ribbon cutting ceremony at 5.30pm to mark the opening with a barbecue by the Rotary Club and music from The Dansant Band.
