Council To Hand Over Website To Islands’ Partnership

simply scilly website 2013Redeveloping the islands’ tourism website is essential but that won’t solve all of Scilly’s tourism problems.

That’s the view of Cllr James Francis. He’s told councillors that he supports transferring the Simply Scilly tourism website to the Islands’ Partnership and urged the Council to do all it can to support the new organisation.

The public and private sector tourism body took over the printed brochure last year and is currently working on a new look and feel for the publication.

In his report into the handover, development officer Julian Pearce told councillors that it was important that the brochure and website were aligned when marketing the islands.

The Partnership intends to redesign the site, using their partners at the Cornwall-based design firm Wolf Rock, which will take up to six months.

The Council pays around £4,000 annually to maintain the website and this payment will cease next July. They’re planning to hand over control to the Partnership in October.

Julian says the Council would continue to pay £15,000 towards the Islands’ Partnership operations each year and the website is also a potential source of income for the organisation, which could help make them more sustainable after their grants expire.
