St Martin’s Man Set To Run Entire Coast Of Inhabited Islands

A St Martin’s man is running the coastal paths around all five inhabited islands. And he wants islanders to join him on his fundraiser for Cancer Research UK when he gets to their own islands.

Ryan Allsop will take on the gruelling 32-mile charity challenge on Saturday July 27th.

It’s been a long-term goal of his to do this, having previously run several marathons.

He’ll switch between the islands on a boat skippered by Anna Cawthray, but although most people would think that the 8-hour run is enough, he’s set to return to St Martin’s with a one-mile sea swim from Tresco.

Ryan says running around the coast paths is a big challenge, as you need to watch your footing. They’re often narrow and overgrown, and you’re never really on the flat at any point, he says.

And the current hot weather could prove to be a problem if it continues. Ryan expects St Agnes, which he’ll get to around lunchtime, to be the hottest point of the challenge.

Ryan says everyone in Scilly has been touched by cancer is some way and he’s hoping that there’ll be a lot of support. He’s going to make it as easy to donate as he can.

You can support him on his Just Giving page. He’ll also be collecting as he runs around the islands and there will be collection tins on St Martin’s.
