The Five Islands School

The Five Islands School

It’s over a year since the islands’ MP Andrew George contacted the Department for Education with his concerns over the suspension and resignation of former head teacher Bryce Wilby.

The DfE subsequently sent an investigation team into school during the autumn term, but there’s still no word on when its findings will be made public.

An interim report letter was leaked in March and a copy, addressed to a senior Council officer, was sent anonymously to all councillors earlier this month.

The letter from the Ministry suggested there should be reorganisation of the governing body with more external input and that the school should pursue Academy status.

The DfE offered governors a chance to reply and chairman Ben Julian told us they did respond. Yesterday a spokesman from the DfE said they are considering the representations received from the school and Council.

A final report will be issued in due course.
