A team of novice gig rowers who completed the 28 mile Land’s End to Scilly crossing last Friday say they want to take part in next year’s World Pilot Gig Championships.

Halena Coury, fundraiser for the Bath Rugby Foundation, who was in one the gigs last week, says the event was an incredible experience and everyone just wants to do more rowing.

The team received training for their challenge from members of Weymouth Gig Club, and had several sessions out on the water with Mount’s Bay and Cape Cornwall clubs.

They’ve been offered a gig by Cape Cornwall and have enough people for a men’s and a ladie’s crew.

In fact, Halena says, the interest has been so high that, if they had another boat, they could easily put up more crew.

She’s also encouraging other rugby clubs to take part.

They’re looking for accommodation for a minimum of two crew and will happily accept anything from space on a campsite to B&B and guesthouses.

They just need to know soon so they can confirm their entry.
