A Netherlands-based author has begun a book signing tour around Scilly to promote her romantic novel, which is set in the islands.

Lin Treadgold is on Bryher today and St Martin’s on Friday with copies of her novel ‘Goodbye Henrietta Street.’

The tour kicked off on the Scillonian III as Lin signed her work on the journey over.

There was an invitation-only party downstairs at the Mermaid Inn on Monday night, where Bone Idol, the islands’ sea shanty singers performed.

The novel has taken eight years to write and features a romance involving a Norwegian Wildlife Trust worker. That’s why Lin has been raising cash for the Trust with a silent auction at Monday night’s event.

Lin says she’s had good reviews and the book’s been published in nine countries.

She believes it will be a good advert for Scilly and said she wanted to give “something back to the islands” after people have been so good to her here.

Lin has lived in the Netherlands since 2001 when her husband relocated there for work, but the couple have been Scilly regulars for fourteen years.

She says she “lives and breathes Scilly” and was keen to reflect the islands’ life in her book.
