The Council will be setting up a steering group to monitor the risk of flooding.

Climate Change Officer David Senior recommended forming the group to ensure there was proper consultation with the public and stakeholders about any proposed flood defence schemes.

It would also monitor how the Council was delivering its Flood Defence Strategy, which is being required by the government.

The Council has already received £350,000 in government grants, some of which will be used this autumn to strengthen the sea wall at Holgate’s Green. There’s also concern about erosion at the western end of Porthcressa, under The Garrison wall.

David proposed including councillors and officers as well as representatives from the Duchy, Wildlife Trust and Tresco Estate.

Members of last Thursday’s General Purposes meeting voted Committee Chair, Steve Sims, onto the new group.
