The first Five Islands School students to join the new Aikido club have all passed their first grading.

Chris Hall says ten pupils were assessed at the Sports Hall on Friday. It’s the first year that the youngsters been formal club members and another eight pupils have said they want to start next year.

They’ve joined the ten adults who practise each Tuesday and Friday from 7pm.

Chris says many are beginners but they train enthusiastically, and two of the students hope to gain black belts later this year.

At the moment all participants are male but Chris says there have been enquiries from women and he hopes there’ll be a more balanced class soon.
