Success For Islands’ First Open Gardens Scheme

chaplaincy gardensThe Open Gardens Scheme on St Mary’s last month was such a success, it’s being held again next week.

Organiser Jane Chiverton says her team is delighted that the 154 locals and visitors who took part raised £1,100 for Macmillan Cancer Support, after paying £5 for a ticket to tour the seven gardens on display.

Jane said not everyone went to every garden, but she says they all spoke positively of the event.

And they will make a slight change to the programme next Tuesday. Jane says visitors didn’t want to spend two days going round the gardens, so they’ll do it for one long day, from 11am to 5pm.

Tickets and maps will be on sale at the TIC.

Jane says the gardens come in all shapes and sizes. Some were very small or were more wild and less manicured. But she says they all have their own charms.

After Tuesday, the next event will be in September.
