With some pupils finishing school and leaving the islands this autumn, the Army Cadets are keen to recruit new youngsters for the next school year intake.

Tony Smith says boys or girls aged over 12 are eligible.

Tony says it’s been a busy summer so far. All of the cadets travelled to RAF St Mawgan and underwent training, ranging from weapons to navigational skills.

Last week the group camped in tents on Dartmoor on an expedition. They’re back on the mainland tomorrow for the Armed Forces Parade in Falmouth alongside Cornish Cadets.

And later in the summer, the group will travel to Weymouth for their annual camp, where they will be sailing at the former Olympic venue.

The cadets will be home on St Mary’s next weekend, fundraising for military charities as part of the Armed Forces Support Week.
