Free Advice On Offer For Parents

childrens services signParents and carers of children with special educational needs will be able to get face-to-face advice today and tomorrow.

Scilly’s Parent Carers Group working with the mainland agency Cornwall Parent Partnership, will be running sessions at the Youth Hub and school where parents can discuss their children’s needs and what they can expect the school to do to help meet them.

Tracy Smith from the Parent Carers says it could be particularly useful to prepare parents for meetings with the school and Local Authority. The advisors will also be able to point people in the right direction for other services.

Tracy says the Partnership usually visits once or twice a year but they can also continue to provide support via their telephone helpline.

It’s not a drop-in session and parents will need to make an appointment. The sessions are being held from 1pm to 5pm today at the Youth Hub and 9.30am to 12.30pm tomorrow at the school.

There will also be a workshop tonight at 7pm at the Youth Hub entitled ‘Making Meetings Matter.’

For more information and to book an appointment please contact Mel on 07876 231932 or Tracy on 07789 245187. Access funding is available for Parent Carer Group members.
