The Garrison Sports and Music Festival on the Sunday of the August Bank Holiday will be bigger than originally planned.

One of the organisers, Mark Twynham, says enough off-island, St Mary’s and mainland performers have offered their services to fill the schedule from 11am until around 11pm.

At a meeting on Monday, organisers decided to pool resources with the Rotary Club.

Mark used to arrange the event in previous years and says £13,000 was generated during the best festival, five years ago. He’s hopeful that more will be raised for the Football Club and the Rotary this year.

Islanders with businesses or charities that would benefit from a stall on the field are being asked to get in touch. Pitches are just £10.

Mark says they’re intending to charge a small entry fee to the field of £2.

He admits it could be difficult to regulate but, as people may bring their own food and drink to the show, he wants to make sure that people who enjoy the entertainment make a contribution towards the good causes.

The entrance fee will also give entry to a raffle.
