There was a minute-long silence at the start of last night’s Inshore Fisheries meeting as a mark of respect for the late Council Chairman Mike Hicks.

Chairman of the IFCA committee, Chris Thomas said that Mike was a very important member of the committee and the former Sea Fisheries group. He said Mike put a lot of work into representing the islands’ interests.

At the meeting, Robert Francis, who chairs the Commercial Fishermen’s Association, shared some concerns after inspectors opened boxes of fish on the quay. The catch was awaiting transport to the mainland markets.

Robert felt the fish could be spoiled and wanted future Marine Management Organisation inspections to take place on board fishing boats, before the fish are packed.
