Harbour Being Promoted To French And Irish Sailors

minerva cruise ship and harbourSt Mary’s Harbour is being promoted to sailors across the British Isles and France.

The Duchy Harbour team has printed 5,000 copies of a guide to the harbour facilities and a similar print run for maps.

There’s also a dedicated leaflet produced in French.

Harbourmaster Dale Clark says they’ve been sent with a polite covering letter to major marinas and yacht clubs in France, including Brest and Cherbourg. Copies have also been mailed out to English and Scottish clubs.

Dale says the St Mary’s team are often sent French brochures, which they display in the harbour office, so this is seen as a reciprocal arrangement. There’s also been an increase in Irish visitors recently, so more material has been sent to the Republic.

Dale says visiting yachts are an increasingly important part of the tourism economy and the brochures should “keep our name out there” and spark interest.

The harbour will soon be joining the TIC, Islands’ Partnership and a number of businesses in using Twitter to update locals and tourists. Dale says they’ll be adding real-time information on tides, weather, Scillonian III movements and general announcements of use to people who visit on their own yachts.
