Charity Bed Push Returning To St Mary’s

St Mary's Hospital

St Mary’s Hospital

It’s twelve years since it was last run, but the charity bed-push is returning to the islands next month.

Hospital and Park House employees, as well as police, ambulance staff and doctors will be taking part in the event, designed to raise money for the Hospital League of Friends and the Care Home.

Ce Hicks, who organised the original bed push with Lena Hesling and Sue Humphries, says the money will be used to enhance the hospital garden and improve accessibility for wheelchair users and less able-bodied visitors and islanders.

The team of fifteen will push the heavy, old-fashioned bed around St Mary’s, starting at 9am at the hospital and travelling through Hugh Town, before heading off around the island.

And Ce says they’ll also be “stopping off at a few hostelries along the way.”

The fundraisers will also raffle off a blanket. Hospital staff learned to crochet during the winter and everyone has produced a square.

Ce says they’d love people to come along and support the event on July 11th, which she says is likely to be a full day of fundraising and fun and will go ahead whatever the weather.
