Inter-Island Walk Returns This Summer

inter island walk 2011 01If you’ve ever fancied walking from St Martin’s to Tresco, then you’ll get another chance this summer.

Clare Lewis is organising an Inter Island Charity Walk to coincide with one of the lowest tides of the year.

The route will start from St Martin’s heading out to Guther’s Rock, then across to Samson and back up the channel to Bryher and Tresco. There will be full support with safety boats and marshals.

Clare said unusually this year, there are quite a few extreme low tides, but the date set, the 22nd August, means the water will be warmest and people will have the best chance of taking part as it’s during the school holidays.

There are some height and age restrictions and the numbers will be limited to 100 as Clare says that’s the number they can safely marshal through the route before the tide starts to come back in.

And if walking from St Martin’s to Tresco isn’t enough, then on the same day Clare will also be organising a swim from Tresco to St Mary’s.

There will be a small entry fee and walkers will be asked to raise at least £50 for the nominated charities which this year are the RNLI, Surfers Against Sewerage, The Marine Conservation Society and the local Wildlife Trust.

Registration will be opening soon at St Mary’s Bike Hire.
