Ladies Lifeboat Guild Hope Raft Race Will Be Big Fundraiser

lifeboat name signThe Ladies Lifeboat Guild is hoping to offer a warm-up event the weekend before the Tresco Triathlon.

The group has arranged for the return of the St Mary’s quay raft race on 23rd June.

And when it comes to entering a raft, anything goes as long as it is human powered, says organiser Ce Hicks.

She says the St Mary’s crew have been on some high profile call outs recently and the committee wanted to do something bigger this year, to raise funds and advertise the work that the RNLI do.

There’ll be a swim for over 16 year olds from the pontoon to the quay head, a greasy pole and ducking stool, as well as number of raft race categories.

There’s also a unique event involving a tug-of-war on kayaks.

Ce says insurance is in place so any youngster between 10 and 18-years-old can take part but you’ll need to register at the Paper Shop.

Ce says they wanted to offer something more than the traditional lifeboat open day, which will be going ahead at the same time, along with the sale of souvenirs on the quay.

There’ll still be the cake sale and she’s keen to hear from anybody who can make and donate items for the stall.
