Cricket: St Martin’s v Tresco

st martins cricket pitch sign 2Report by Colin Daly

Sunday 9th June turned out to be the last clear sunny day of the spell of weather we have been enjoying.

Tresco Cricket Club put it to good use when they visited St. Martin’s for a 25 over match due to start at 2pm but was classically a little late.

Tresco won the toss and asked the home team to bat first. There were actually 11 St. Martin’s players but the openers were out fairly cheaply. Matt Kerrigan started to pile up the best score for his team but was out for 27. Nobody managed to beat that and St. Martin’s were all out after 18 overs for just 86.

P. Marshall took 4 wickets and A. Lawson 3.

After tea, Tresco went in to bat. St. Martin’s hopes were raised when the first wicket fell with no score. But L. Hamilton steadied the ship with an innings of 34 not out. A string of partners stayed with him long enough to get the score needed and he and B. Daniel (19 not out) took the score past the required in 17 overs for the loss of 5 wickets.

So a clear win for Tresco and a pleasant exchange of views took place after at Adam & Fiona’s fish and chips.
