Steamship Company Want Accommodation Providers To Meet Them Half Way On Offer

scillonian gangwayThe Isles of Scilly Steamship Company is offering reduced fares for visitors this June. But they’re asking accommodation providers to meet them halfway.

Amada Pender from the Island’s Partnership says they’ve been listening to business owners on the islands who are say that June is not as busy as it used to be.

They’ve negotiated a special rate with the Steamship Company that will allow visitors to get 25% of an outward flight from Land’s End, with 50% off their return on the Scillonian III.

All they’re asking is that accommodation providers also offer a deal to visitors booking and holidaying in June. It could be a straight discount or offering 4 nights for the price of 3.

Amanda says there’s still a myth that the islands are hard to get to, which is totally wrong, and she says it’s important that everyone knows that.

The June holiday offer will be promoted on the Simply Scilly website and they’ll also be taking out adverts in the regional press.

Amanda says she’s already had a fantastic response, with 25 businesses coming back to her yesterday afternoon with offers up to 50% off.

She says the Islands Partnership is about people working together and this is a great chance for businesses to show they can do that for the good of the islands.

Anyone who wants to be part of the promotion needs to contact Amy or Amanda at the Islands Partnership, on 424036, before midday Monday, letting them know the discount they’re offering.

They’ll get a code which their customers can then use on the Steamship Company’s website.

The Steamship Company have also reduced the cost of a day return on the Scillonian III to £25 per adult in June.

Shame this has come so late. We had the first two weeks of June available in our hiliday let and were offering them at a 33% discount but still didn’t get any takers. If we had had prior notice of this offer we could have combined it with our discount to attract visitors. Not a question of “too little” (it’s a great offer) but far too late for this year!

Would be nice if we could have more double sailings then it would attract more day trippers.. In my view £35 is a lot of money to pay out for a day trip with just a couple of hours on the islands..

We got hooked on Scilly six years ago through recommendation by our parents, this year our 7th straight visit for two weeks starting mid June and can’t wait.
Personally I don’t think you should have offer’s, it sounds a bit desperate.
You have a niche product, it’s unique and should concentrate on promoting it more widely.
We don’t see any advertising “UP NORTH”, maybe advertising is concentrated to the south coast?
Without word of mouth, we and many more may have never realised these beautiful islands.
Seeing as there’s no subsidy for transport links until there are no transport links! ?
Is there any funding from the government or E.U for the likes of advertising on a national if not global scale to promote and get the people in?
Maybe then the people who run the businesses on the isles wouldn’t be at the mercy of the iosscco..
We have average incomes and travel down from York, stay over in Penzance then get Scillonian over, stay on St Marys in one of the many fantastic B&B’s, then back again, stay in Penzance then back to York.
Yes maybe not the cheapest of holidays, but after two weeks there it feels like four and worth every penny.
For us The Isles of Scilly are the perfect tonic to unwind and relax.
In short more advertising please, if you don’t make calls, you don’t make sales.
No I’m not a sales rep, I’m a van delivery driver who is in contact with all genres of people and all too often when I’M!! promoting Scilly on my travels, most aren’t aware that it exists?

Out of interest, would it make your journey to the islands easier if the boat left Penzance at 16:00 and made the return trip from St Mary’s at 07:00, allowing you to travel to and from up country and get to the islands all in one day, rather than having to endure a double stay over in Penzance?

Hi Nobby, Technically it would be easier and not having to take extra days holiday from work to drive down on Friday, but that said we could set of early morning and make it for the sailing.
Also if it left at 16.00 we’d loose that valuable time on the islands instead of docking at midday and then loose all of a days holiday for the return journey if we left at 07.00 instead of late afternoon.
As for cost, we’d only save £160 for the two nights in Penzance.
That said, we love the whole journey of getting to the Islands long drives and all
We are back on Scilly this Saturday for two weeks and can’t wait.
