Plans For Vacated Carn Thomas Space Unclear

It’s likely that Council staff working at the former primary school at Carn Thomas will move out of their offices and into the recently converted Carn Gwavel primary school site by July.

Lifelong Learning currently occupies two offices and a conference room at Carn Thomas.

Staff will relocate to the new site, shared with the Memory Cafe and a children’s childcare facility.

The work has been undertaken during the winter following the Council’s successful bid for a £600,000 Big Lottery grant.

But it’s unclear what will happen to the existing Council offices when the Adult Education team move out.

Press officer George Pearson says has been unable to find out what the plans are for the empty Carn Thomas space. ScillyToday understands senior Council officers will meet to discuss the plan soon.

Last July, Cllr Amanda Martin warned that the Council’s office spaces around Hugh Town were “growing like Topsy” and members requested an asset management plan, detailing who was working in which location.

That is currently underway.
