Sport And Music Festival To Return To The Garrison

garrison footballAfter a four-year break, the Sport and Music Festival will be held on the Garrison again this summer.

The popular event began in 2006, raising around £30,000 for good causes. But putting on a day-long festival proved too much work for organisers Mark Twynham and Martin Songhurst and it folded.

Now the St Mary’s Football Club has agreed to start it again and they’ve pencilled in the Sunday of the August Bank Holiday weekend.

Stuart Hitchens from the club says the day will offer entertainment for all islanders and visitors.

There’ll be a 6-a-side football tournament and a netball event, but Stuart Hitchens says it will mostly be about the music. It’s hoped that the islands’ performers will be on stage from early afternoon until around 10pm.

Stuart says the Football Club needs to put on the event to raise cash for work on the Garrison changing rooms and for new kit. The clothing could cost £1,000.

Stuart says he understands it’s a big task but he’s hopeful that all the club members can work together to make it happen.

Stu – Good luck to all organising this extremely popular event which in the past has been well supported and enjoyed by both islanders and visitors. Are you having side stalls run by other charities & groups @ a small charge, if so we would like 1 for Cancer Research
