Islands’ First Fete Of Season Takes Place Today

St Agnes Mayday 2011Art, food and music are being served up on St Agnes today as the island hosts an afternoon fete.

The event is a fundraiser for the Island Hall project and the Cornwall Air Ambulance and will be followed by a larger fete on the island later in the season.

One of the organisers, Maddie Goudsmith, says locals and visitors who attend will be taken by the intimate and friendly nature of the event, which is taking place on School Hill by the lighthouse.

Art will feature prominently and Maddie says there should be some lovely craft gifts available for sale.

There will also be cake and clothing sales, as well as a bouncy castle for the kids.

Work is already underway on the £2.1m Island Hall scheme, which will take 33 weeks to transform the space into a community facility with business workshops.

Locals have secured thousands of pounds in grant money but also need to match-fund some of the cash.

The fete runs from 1pm to 4pm this afternoon.
