Girl Guides Cooking Champs Miss Out On Title This Year

guide campA group of Girl Guides from Scilly met tough competition as they tried to retain their Camp Cooking Champions title at an event in Cornwall at the weekend.

They’ve been winners for two years, but Fiona Robson says this time the girls came a close fourth, with just one point between the top four teams.

Lucy and Sophie Twynham, Shannon Aston, Sophie Poat, and Heather Hamilton used camp cooking equipment to make cheesy-topped lentil and tomato soup followed by a main course of baked salmon and prawns with peppers and onions, rice and sugar snap peas.

Their pudding was a heart-shaped cake topped with strawberries and chocolate.

Fiona says they lost points for the final presentation but had top marks for the appearance and the tidiness of their cooking site.

After the recent Scilly success, the mainland patrols raised their game and pulled out all the stops, says Fiona, and the islanders are already planning next year’s competition.
